An innumerable number of things. The one that springs to mind is caring for a child who has a liver problem and then finding out that the government waiting list for liver transplants is 4 years long. Or caring for the survivor's of an atomic blast weho have been contaminated by fallout.

The bloodless capture of 1800 turkish and german troops by a troop (approx 100 men) in Palestine during WW1.

Athenian democracy/Swiss democracy.
